WE HAVE GREENERY

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

Hello Ryan blog family! It's been a while since my last post. All is well and we are enjoying our home. We've spent lots of time in the yard since the end of April. We dug up some of the shrubs we hated and added some annuals and rose climbers.  We also added some lavender for sweetness. We'll see how they blossom throughout the summer.  We have grass...weeeee. Now is it perfect? no; is it all the same color? no; do I have patches that need help? yes.  We cut the grass for the first time this weekend and, it's coming along.  I have been a watering, seeding, fertilizing fool.  Hopefully I can get some more garden soil and seed out on the trouble spots this weekend.  Here are some pics.  Side bar...my neighbors put up a wall...I mean fence.  Comments please :)

Can you see where Comcast dug through the lawn? I'm still in recovery

Glimpse of the fence

Those shrubs were originally in the front of the house....transplanted

Ok, yes....I know it's streaky but it's coming. My spreader is on crack

This patch needs some love for sure

Comments...please!

  1. First off, your yard look amazing, compared to anything in our neighborhood they would take yours any day of the week, so good job!

The fence......how awesome......I love privacy, so if they invested tons of money in the fence....good for you...lol

As far as landscaping, I am a freak about it, so I like LOTS of it......you asked for comments so....I would do more along the side of the house and the ends of your driveway as well, mulch is cheap and adds so much character!! As I look further, I might actually landscape the other side of your sidewalk as well, with mulch and small flowers and shrubs....just my 2 cents worth, but I like LOTS of landscaping!!

    1. Thanks DW!! Yes, more landscaping to come for sure. My husband and I go back in forth about mulching in front of the sidewalk. The jury is still out. If we do it then I will have to be on full time gardener duty. I've seen that area if its not regularly maintained and it ain't pretty. I don't have that much time but...we'll see. As for the fence, ahem 'wall', it's my neighbors'. It's a bit much fr me. You can see how the landscape is on the other side, the wall is a bit abrupt. Oh well, it's their property so I can't change it. They said a pool is coming in the future hence the height. One day I won't notice it.

    2. Linda, yup the landscaping is a job, but its my hobby so I guess my suggestions do take up a little bit of time...LOL

Your neighbors are getting a pool...oh boy! Our HOA only allows inground pools...thanks goodness, I cant stand an above ground pool (sorry for folks that have them, I just dont like them)

    3. Theirs will be in ground too. I guess privacy is just a main concern. Who knows

  2. Your yard looks way better than ours. We are struggling to get it looking nice. Of course, we built in an area where all of the other houses have been their a while so our yard looks so put of place!

As for the fence/wall... It looks a bit random since they didn't fence in the whole thing. Unfortunately we can't choose what our neighbors do with their property. Believe me, I wish I could! I now have the view of a lovely (insert sarcasm here) above ground pool, which wouldn't be completely horrible if they had actually leveled the area first! Don't even get me started on the constant barking from their dogs or their trash can that overflows and trashes up my yard every freaking week!

    1. M,
I'm so sorry about your neighbors. That sounds very interesting to say the least. My neighbors did fence in their entire yard with the privacy wall, I just wanted to show my view. They are very nice though. I guess it could be worse huh?

    2. Yeah, at least they are nice. We are putting up a wooden privacy fence as soon as we can. I feel bad about putting the fence up on the other side though because I actually like and get along with those neighbors really well. I just can't deal with the trash and the dogs on the other side long term.

  3. Hi Linda! You are really moving along!! Do you all have HOA guidelines to follow? In our community every outside finishing must be submitted with an application for approval. As far as our fences go, we all must have and use the same color (white ) with invisible wire plus they must be a much shorter height than your neighbors too. Lastly, the must begin the the fencing from the end corner of the house which allows for uniformity of all the homes. this keeps the neighborhood looking nice instead of a bunch of different styles mixed together. At first I was annoyed because i wanted more fence; but now that the fences are going up it looks really nice with the guidelines they established. You cannot see any fences perched towards the front which keeps it looking fresh and stremedlined. The nice thing about them putting up the fence first means you don't have to pay for that side should you choose to fence your yard. Lol

  4. Hi Nadase,
Yes, yes, yes...we are supposed to be a part of an HOA but currently, it is a nebulous entity and a party of one. If ever there was a time to do something crazy, nows te time. It's unclear if ur HOA will join the HOA already established up the street. Not sure if my neighbors went through anyone but technically, they don't have to yet. I completely agree with you though. I guess I will grow to accept it but it is a bit much. Later down the road we are going to get a white fence that will hopefully compliment our deck. Learning to live with others is the bigger lesson. I'm bending. :)
