TILE AND GRANITE SEALER

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Now that the tile has been installed I'm wondering...does anyone know what's the best sealant to apply to tile grout and granite before moving in? Thanks everyone!

  1. Hi Linda, just finding your page!! YAY!

If you want bloggers to follow your journey and leave comments, you will need a join this site button on your page. Go to my blog and look for the tab with the instructions. And turn off the word verification, it makes bloggers decipher a funky word pattern. Ugghh Once you turn it off, bloggers will be more inclined to leave a comment.

If you have not already done so join my blog so I can follow your journey and vice versa

BTW--my husband purchased a grout and I will have to come back to let you know if he got a cheap or expensive product.

    1. Hi Nadase,
It's strange, the follow me button has been on my blog for a couple of weeks now and I can see my followers (scratching my head). I will look in my settings to see if I can tweak the word verification. Please let me know which sealer you all choose. Have you started or finished moving in?

  3. I tried to look up grout sealing online and saw paint-on, roll-on and spray varieties, but our flooring rep told us to get Dupont Spray on (the advantage is that you can wipe it off tile and don't have to paint as meticulously as other products. When I got to Lowes there really wasn't much variety, I asked an employee and they said there used to be and the product lines have been reduced. Spray on is trouble enough to apply, I wouldn't want anything more time consuming (we have a TON of tile), but my only problem with the spray on is there's really not a lot of difference between sealed grout and unsealed grout: I'm not at all sure what the sealer is doing or how you tell if it's working (I thought it's supposed to change how things wet, but...) In comparison, I also sealed the "natural stone" listello with a stone sealer as directed, and the results are pretty dramatic (you aren't supposed to get it on your grout, and it does stain things white a bit, but where it is on the grout you can see it doesn't get wet the same way.)

    1. Thanks Julie! This is so helpful. I just spoke with my PM and he suggests Miracle Sealants 511 spray on sealer. The easier to apply for me the better

  4. You'll have to mention if you find the 511 and how it turns out. Grout has to be re-sealed periodically and I'd love to find a product that seems to be doing more. I didn't mention our stone sealer was also the Dupont from Lowes, the same product is supposed to work for the listello and granite counters, but they said our counters are sealed already to start off and will need it again later.

One thing to watch out for: some stone sealers are an "enhancing" variety and others are plain sealer. If you like how your stuff looks now, don't get the enhancing, it can leave a terrible haze and be really difficult to remove (I've heard some scary stories online, and the products on the shelf look almost identical)
